The range of services offered by go2HR plays an important role in helping tourism and hospitality businesses to recognize and address occupational and psychological health & safety concerns. To meet the growing demand for these services, and in line with our strategic priorities, go2HR is pleased to be hiring for a talented Health & Safety professional to join our team.

Position Overview:

Reporting to the Director, Industry Health & Safety, the H&S Specialist engages directly with businesses across the province to provide OHS guidance, support and resources to help strengthen H&S programs and build safer work environments. This role involves liaising with multiple stakeholders and requires a balance of strong technical OHS skills combined with excellent communication and interpersonal engagement capabilities.
As the Health & Safety Specialist, you will be involved in a range of activities, including:
• Providing tailored H&S advisory services to industry employers, focusing on current and emerging areas of concern and interest
• Responding to inquiries and advising employers on specific OHS-related matters, adapting your approach to suit each interaction
• Leading specific projects on current high priority topic areas such as managing heat stress, expanding worker engagement in workplace H&S, preventing musculoskeletal injuries and much more
• Promoting go2HR’s health & safety initiatives to the industry during interactions to raise awareness and encourage participation
• Developing and maintaining strong relationships with industry stakeholders – employers, industry associations, destination marketing/management organizations and WorkSafeBC
• Collaborating with other go2HR team members to develop, organize and deliver industry events and projects (e.g. OHS presentations, forums, webinars, articles, website content, surveys), on time and on budget
• Maximizing opportunities to cross-promote go2HR’s suite of offerings, including training and HR services, facilitating referrals and introductions
• Maintaining current knowledge of Workers Compensation Act and OHS Regulation, consulting with industry and other stakeholders on emerging issues
• Identifying and recommending opportunities to expand go2HR’s OHS training programs, services, events and resources to meet the needs of the industry
• Assisting employers with H&S program development and continual improvement efforts
• Creating, reviewing and updating training course content and educational resources on the website to reflect new information and regulatory changes
• Contributing ideas, content and subject matter expertise to support targeted outreach efforts, including articles, newsletters, social media and eblasts
• Participating in H&S committees
• Contributing to the ongoing assessment of the H&S program performance by tracking metrics, contributing to annual reports and benchmarking H&S offerings
• Supporting the development of future annual H&S workplans/business plans

Responsibilities & Qualifications

• Minimum 3 years of relevant experience in an OHS-related capacity; preferably within the tourism and hospitality industry
• Practical experience with safety management systems and injury management/return to work practices
• Comprehensive understanding of BC Workers Compensation Act and OHS Regulation and the ability to locate key information when needed
• Experience developing OHS programs and/or delivering OHS consultations (auditing, feedback, guidance & support/advisory services)
• Experience in/understanding of workplace psychological health and safety, including the management of psychological risks and awareness building considered an asset
• Excellent interpersonal skills; proven able to gain cooperation and build relationships with a broad range of partners and stakeholders
• Strong attention to detail, highly skilled listener and communicator; oral and written
• Proven skills in project management, rolling out new initiatives, training/presentations delivery and data analysis
• Self-starter, able to work productively with minimal supervision and take ownership of work
• Proven time management and organizational skills
• Proficiency with Microsoft Office and virtual meeting platforms (MS Teams, Zoom, Webex)
• Valid driver’s license, able to travel
• Occupational health and safety certificate or diploma highly desirable
• Working towards an OHS designation (e.g. CRSP, CHSC) a definite asset

Salary/Wage

65 - 85K

Work Environment: The days of work are Monday to Friday, 37.5 hours/week, in a hybrid or fully remote (home-office based) work environment, depending on the successful candidate’s location. go2HR’s head office is located in downtown Vancouver and our hybrid team works approximately two days a week in our office. Candidates must reside in BC and be located near a major hub to be considered, as some travel to Vancouver head office and around the province will be required.
