go2HR is looking for a knowledgeable and people-focused Health & Safety Specialist to join our collaborative and fun-loving team. This hybrid role (based in Vancouver) blends OHS know-how with the opportunity to engage directly with employers across BC, helping them build safer, healthier workplaces where people can thrive.

About Us:
go2HR is the human resources and health & safety association for BC’s tourism and hospitality industry. We champion strong workforces and safe workplaces—so our province can continue delivering world-class visitor experiences.

We’re INCLUSIVE, COLLABORATIVE, ENTREPRENEURIAL, and TRUSTWORTHY. And we walk the talk.
Our mission is to empower employers to have a strong human resource and health & safety culture that supports strong business performance.

  • We offer programs, tools, information, and consulting services to elevate employers’ human resources and health and safety practices.
  • We educate and train the current and future workforces.
  • We inform government, stakeholders and communities on labour market conditions and strategy.

Whether we’re offering training, developing safety resources, advising businesses, or researching labour market trends, we’re passionate about supporting people and businesses to succeed—and have fun while doing it.

Responsibilities & Qualifications

Why This Role Rocks:

As our Health & Safety Specialist, you’ll report to the Director of Industry Health and Safety and be at the heart of it all—working directly with businesses across BC to build relationships, providing expert guidance and hands-on support to strengthen their health and safety programs.

Here’s what you’ll be doing:

  • Delivering customized health & safety advisory services to industry employers, addressing current and emerging workplace challenges with practical, tailored solutions.
  • Advising on OHS matters—from regulatory compliance to real-world best practices—using a collaborative and adaptable approach.
  • Leading high-impact projects on top-priority topics like heat stress management, musculoskeletal injury prevention, and engaging workers in health & safety – on time and on budget.
  • Acting as a go2HR ambassador, promoting our health & safety programs and encouraging participation across the industry.
  • Building and nurturing relationships with key stakeholders, including employers, industry associations, destination marketing/management organizations and WorkSafeBC.
  • Collaborating across teams to plan and deliver engaging initiatives like webinars, presentations, surveys and resource development.
  • Spotting opportunities to cross-promote go2HR’s full suite of services including training and HR support and facilitating warm referrals.
  • Staying sharp and current with the latest OHS trends, legislation and best practices, while offering industry-informed insight on emerging health & safety issues.
  • Helping expand and enhance our offerings, recommending new training, tools, and services based on what the industry really needs.
  • Supporting employers directly, helping them build, refine, and elevate their internal health & safety programs.
  • Creating and refreshing educational resources on the website, ensuring content is engaging, relevant, and aligned with regulation and reflects the industry
  • Contributing your voice and expertise to industry communications—think articles, newsletters, eblasts and social media.
  • Participating in health & safety committee meetings, sharing knowledge, gaining insight and collaborating with peers.
  • Tracking impact and outcomes, monitoring trends, evaluating program results and working with the team on monthly, quarterly and annual reports.
  • Helping shape the way forward by contributing to future work planning and strategic initiatives that strengthen go2HR’s health & safety impact across the province.

What You Bring:

  • 3+ years’ experience in an OHS role (tourism & hospitality background = a bonus!)
  • OHS certificate/diploma or equivalent highly desirable, working towards an OHS designation (e.g. CRSP or CHSC) = a big plus
  • Hands-on experience with health & safety and return-to-work programs, audits and providing solutions and advice
  • Knowledge of BC Workers Compensation Act & OHS Regulation and able to locate key information when needed
  • Understanding of workplace factors that influence psychological health & safety = ideal
  • Great communication skills, oral and written, with a knack for building relationships
  • Experience in creating and delivering presentations and workshops/training, able to sort and analyze data and spot trends
  • Detail-oriented, self-motivated and highly organized, owning the work and the outcomes
  • Skills in project management, rolling out new initiatives and getting things done
