Job Description

Whistler Olympic Park is a world-class destination for outdoor recreation activities & Nordic sports, located just south of Whistler in the stunning Callaghan Valley. Established for the 2010 Olympic & Paralympic Winter Games, the Park’s incredible facilities are now enjoyed by both high-performance athletes and recreational guests alike.

Small Engine Mechanic supports the Supervisor, Fleet Maintenance to primarily maintain the ATV, snowmobile and snow blower fleet as well as assisting in the maintenance of motor vehicles, heavy equipment, snow cats and other machinery at Whistler Olympic Park. Seasonal full time role requires flexibility to work weekends and nights.

Responsibilities & Qualifications

Responsibilities
• Ensure operation of small engine fleet by completing preventive maintenance requirements and troubleshoot malfunctions while adhering to protocols
• Prepare fleet maintenance, preventative maintenance systems, and schedules as required
• Assist with maintenance of road fleet, heavy equipment, and snow cats as directed
• Perform daily checks including pre-start up inspections, fueling procedures, shut down and post operational procedures including documentation regarding vehicle maintenance per established protocols
• Ensure a high standard in all finished work is maintained utilizing cost-effective measures
• Operate all equipment in a safe and responsible manner
• Assist Snow Clearing operations when required
• Ensure work orders are completed in a timely manner including required information e.g., document inspection, repair, labour, and material information, etc., as required
• Maintain safe and clean working environment including ensuring Maintenance buildings and surrounding areas are kept in a clean, safe, organized and presentable manner
• Positively represent the organization’s mission, vision, and values
• Take personal accountability and responsibility for actions; take initiative to find creative solutions to problems or issues
• Liaise with other departments such as Sport Operations, Guest Services, and Grooming
• Foster a strong culture of health & safety; work with Human Resources and Safety to ensure all WorkSafeBC and Technical Safety BC requirements are met

• Assist team with other duties as assigned or required
• Flexibility to work weekends, evenings/nights and holidays

Position Requirements
Education/Experience
• 1-3 years’ experience working on small engines, preferably off road vehicles primarily
• Heavy equipment operating experience an asset
• WHMIS certification required
• Valid BC Class 5 Driver’s License required
• Valid BC Class 4 Driver’s License an asset
• Knowledge of provincial regulations an asset
• Occupational First Aid Level 1 an asset

Skills
• Strong mechanical aptitude required
• Ability to:
o read, analyze, and interpret documents such as a safety policies, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals
o fabricate, and invent where necessary to achieve the required finished product either in the shop or in the field as deemed necessary
• Keen and can-do attitude
• Capacity to work well under pressure while maintaining work performance
• Exceptional interpersonal skills facilitating working relationships with managers, supervisors and co-workers
• Strong organizational and time management skills to provide timely and high-quality service to maximize athlete, volunteer, guest and colleague experience
• Willingness to assist other team members (perhaps outside the department) as needed and requested
• Passion for exceptional customer service is essential

Physical Requirements
• Reliable winter transportation (WOP is not serviced by transit)
• Ability to work in adverse weather conditions while performing labour intensive duties
• Ability to stand for long periods of time
• Ability to regularly lift 50lbs

Salary/Wage

$26.50 to $29.00 / hour dependent on experience
