Job Description

Tourism New Westminster is seeking (2) Visitor Information Counsellors to take on programs and tasks that support the organization’s initiatives. Tourism New Westminster is a not-for-profit society and the official Destination Management Organization for New Westminster. It includes a Visitor Centre, administration office, and remote visitor services pop-ups. The Visitor Information Counsellors are frontline ambassadors for our destination, responsible for providing friendly, accurate, and engaging information to visitors.

Full Time, Temporary from June 30 – August 29, 2025
35 hours per week, wage is $18.00/hour
Must be available to work weekends, holidays, and evenings

Responsibilities & Qualifications

Key Responsibilities:
-Greet visitors in a warm and professional manner.
-Provide accurate information on local attractions, accommodations, restaurants, transportation, and events.
-Attend off-site community events – including set up and take down of visitor services pop-up, liaising with visitors, supervising volunteers, providing customer service.
-Offer personalized recommendations based on visitors’ interests and needs.
-Distribute maps, brochures, and other promotional materials.
-Record visitor statistics and conduct surveys.
-Capture photos and videos of events, attractions, and cityscapes and save onto our database.
-Restock and organize visitor information displays.
-Update the website business directory and events calendar as needed.
-Help assist the team with special marketing projects and campaigns, potentially being filmed or photographed.
-Help support the creation of blog and social media content.
-Assist with administrative tasks and special projects as needed.

Skills and Experience:
-Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
-Knowledge of New Westminster is an asset.
-Friendly, outgoing, and customer-service focused.
-Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
-Comfortable using computers, tablets, and basic office software.
-Previous tourism or customer service experience is an asset.
-Experience in graphic design, photography, videography, writing, communications and marketing all a huge asset.

Qualities:
-Reliable, professional, and trustworthy.
-Good problem-solving skills.
-Ability to take initiative and follow through.
-Fluency in English required; other languages an asset.
-Friendly and effective in personal and digital interactions.
-Passionate about the Tourism industry and attracting visitors to New Westminster.
-Aware of trends and adept at applying a creative lens to problem-solving.
-Ability to work independently and effectively.
-Self-starter, proactive and confident.

These positions are only made possible through the Canada Summer Jobs program, this federal grant funding requires that successful candidates:

-are between 15 and 30 years of age (inclusive) at the start of employment.
-are Canadian Citizens, permanent residents, or persons on whom refugee protection has been conferred under the Immigration and Refugee Protection Act*;
-have a valid Social Insurance Number at the start of employment and are legally entitled to work according to the relevant provincial/territorial legislation and regulations.

* International students are not eligible participants. International students include anyone who is
temporarily in Canada for studies and who is not a Canadian citizen, permanent resident, or person who has been granted refugee status in Canada. Youth awaiting a refugee status ruling, as well as those who hold a temporary visitor visa, youth visa or work visa are ineligible. As the objective of the Canada Summer Jobs program is to support youth entering the Canadian labour market, the temporary nature of an international student’s time in Canada does not allow for a long-term connection to the labour market.
