About Orca Spirit Adventures
Orca Spirit Adventures is a Victoria-based whale watching and marine tour company operating in the Salish Sea. We run Transport Canada certified covered passenger vessels and are committed to safety, professionalism, and delivering high-quality wildlife experiences.
Position Summary
We are hiring a certified 60 Ton Captain for the 2026 season. This role is responsible for the safe navigation and operation of a passenger vessel, leadership of onboard crew, and delivery of a professional guest experience. The successful candidate will demonstrate strong seamanship, sound judgment, and a calm, safety-first approach in a dynamic marine environment.
Responsibilities & Qualifications
Duties and Responsibilities
• Safely operate a Transport Canada certified passenger vessel in coastal waters
• Ensure full compliance with Transport Canada regulations and company safety procedures
• Conduct pre-trip inspections and confirm vessel readiness
• Lead and supervise onboard crew including naturalists and deckhands
• Maintain safe navigation in varying weather and sea conditions
• Follow marine mammal viewing regulations and environmental best practices
• Complete required logs, safety documentation, and reporting
• Participate in safety drills, training, and team meetings
• Communicate clearly with dispatch and management
Required Qualifications
• Transport Canada Master 60 GT certificate or higher
• MED A3 or higher
• Marine Basic First Aid
• ROC-M
• Valid Transport Canada Marine Medical
• Experience operating passenger vessels in coastal waters
• Strong knowledge of Collision Regulations and coastal navigation
• Leadership and crew management experience
Preferred Qualifications
• Experience in whale watching or marine tourism
• Knowledge of Southern Vancouver Island and the Salish Sea
• Mechanical aptitude and familiarity with diesel engines
• Strong customer service skills
Working Conditions
• Seasonal operation with variable hours
• Weekend and holiday availability required
• Outdoor marine environment in varying weather conditions
Salary/Wage
47/ hr
