Job Description
Are you passionate about visitor experience, museum operations, and creating sustainable systems that support heritage institutions? The Rossland Museum & Discovery Centre (RMDC) is hiring an Operations Coordinator to support the day-to-day functioning and long-term planning of our dynamic site. This position is ideal for a recent graduate eager to contribute to core museum operations while helping grow audience engagement, site accessibility, and public programs.
The RMDC preserves and dynamically presents the history and culture of Rossland and its surrounding areas. With a focus on mining and skiing history, the museum features indoor and outdoor exhibits, an extensive community archive, a visitor information centre, and a wide range of educational programs and special events.
Responsibilities & Qualifications
Visitor Services & Site Operations
• Greet visitors, process admissions, and assist in the Museum Shop
• Respond to inquiries and share information about Rossland and area attractions
• Maintain and update visitor brochures, including underrepresented destinations
• Assist with branded merchandise and local partnerships
• Ensure the museum site is clean, accessible, and welcoming
Tour & Event Support
• Assist with guided tours for groups, schools, and summer camps
• Help schedule and coordinate private bookings and public events (e.g., Canada Day)
• Contribute to the development of walking and audio tours on-site and downtown
• Work with other departments to enhance interpretive spaces on the property
Volunteer & Membership Support
• Review and support growth of volunteer and membership programs
• Help coordinate volunteer work bees and outdoor maintenance efforts
• Assist Heritage Garden volunteers, if desired
Museum Sustainability & Internal Operations
• Conduct research and contribute to site sustainability planning
• Assist with inventory, sales tracking, and product research in the Museum Shop
• Review and update internal operations documents (procedures, checklists, forms)
• Participate in cross-departmental support for exhibitions, social media, and publications

Who We’re Looking for:
• A recent graduate in museum studies, tourism, marketing, history, or a related field
• Strong English verbal and written communication skills
• Excellent organizational, customer service, and public speaking skills
• Confident problem-solver with a positive, team-oriented attitude
• Comfortable performing light maintenance and groundskeeping tasks
• Proficient in computer applications, including Google Workspace, spreadsheets, and Squarespace
• Knowledge of Rossland or West Kootenay history is an asset
• Additional language skills (especially French) and First Aid certification are considered assets
• This position is funding-dependent and will require candidates to meet Young Canada Works at Building Careers in Heritage eligibility criteria.
